AN(T)I

PERSONAL EXPLORATION

PRODUCTION: MOTION PUNK
DESIGN/ANIMATION: Thanos Kagkalos
MUSIC: Ted Regklis (www.tedregklis.com)

A(n)ti was created as a promotional trailer for a Greek dance performance based on Sophocles’ play Antigone.

This small project comes in a non-traditional form with a lot of mograph elements but at the same time stays consistent with the mood and the concept of the original play. It describes our hero’s journey in a nonlinear fashion using playful but elegant design language to bring tension and discomfort.

Antigone is a feminine symbol of resistance, freedom, and democracy. In today’s world, Antigone’s struggle for free will and female rights comes in parallel with the injustice that many countries are facing as we speak.
I worked on the visuals/execution during the last weeks of September 2022 – the same time as some of the more widespread protests in Iran took place.

The spark was an Iranian girl called Mahsa Amini. She was beaten to death by the Iranian morality police for not wearing a hijab in accordance with government standards. Part of her hair was not covered properly.

We want to dedicate this work to the brave women of Iran that are fighting for their dignity and equality.
